Turns out men may be biologically less variable than women. Check out today's Nature. They published the sequence of the X chromosome yesterday. I also recommend reading Erika Check's somewhat biting news feature -- talks about the proponderance of brain proteins coded for on the X chromosome, here's a taste:

"Summers and his acolytes can chew on this thought: even if there's any truth in the idea that men are more suited to a career in science than women, they just might owe this mental predisposition to the 'girly' chromosome."
